For today’s Art Ala Carte segment we preview an expression session — for kids. It’s all to gear up for Halloween. Iolani School art teacher Cheri Keefer joining us this morning with kindergarteners Oliver, Finley, Oko and Emily. Good morning. Expression Session Kids: Clay Pumpkins Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House Description: A two-day workshop led by instructor Cheri Keefer. Children will make Halloween-themed things like pumpkins, witches’ hats and black cats out of clay on the first day. On the second day they paint their creations. Oct 5, 10am-noon OR 1-3pm Oct 12, 10am-noon OR 1-3pm Cost: $30 For children age 5-12 What is Expression Session? Expression Session is an art experience for childre n held the first Sunday of the month at Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House. I am a full-time art teacher at Iolani School and I like to lead Expression Sessions as a way to give back to the community to offer art education to children who may not be getting it in their school. What will children make at Expression Expression: Clay Pumpkins? They’ll make all the fun and spooky things associated with Halloween-pumpkins, witches’ hats, black cats and bats. Do children need to have previous experience with clay? Not at all, any child age 5 to 12 can participate-they just need to be ready to have fun. just need to be ready to have fun.
